The Bathroom Story
A year ago, Jane and her friends came
to Indonesia to learn Bahasa Indonesia.
They stayed in a village with host families. Jane lived in Jeding and
her friends lived in Tempuran. Whenever they were asked where they lived, Jane
said “I live in Jeding”. Everyone would start laughing.
After
a few days she started to get upset. She did not understand why people kept
laughing at her. Finally she asked one of her Indonesian friends named Siti why
people kept laughing at her. Siti started laughing and saying, “Jeding means
bathroom in Javanese!” So every time someone asked Jane where she was living she
was saying, “I live in a bathroom.”
